Mario Teodoro Ramírez Cobián (b. 1958, Ocampo, Tamaulipas, Mexico) is a Mexican philosopher widely recognized as one of the leading figures in contemporary Latin American phenomenology. He is the founder and director of the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas “Luis Villoro” at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) in Morelia, where he has been part of the university community since 1977. He earned his Master’s degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in 1986 and his Doctorate from the same institution in 1994, Saber Más with both theses devoted to the philosophy of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. His master’s thesis was later published as El quiasmo: Ensayo sobre la filosofía de Merleau-Ponty (1994), a work that is credited with inaugurating the serious reception of Merleau-Ponty’s thought in Mexico. A revised second edition appeared in 2013 through the Fondo de Cultura Económica under the title La filosofía del quiasmo: Introducción al pensamiento de Merleau-Ponty.
