Iván Jaksic is Director of Stanford’s Bing Overseas Studies Program in Santiago, Chile. A Guggenheim and NEH Fellow, he has held teaching and research positions at UC-Berkeley, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Harvard, and Oxford. He is the author of Academic Rebels in Chile: The Role of Philosophy in Higher Education and Politics (1989), Andres Bello: Scholarship and Nation-Building in Nineteenth-Century Latin America (2001), The Hispanic World and American Intellectual Life, 1820-1880 (2007), and numerous essays and edited volumes.
