IvÃ¡n JaksiÄ‡ is Director of Stanfordâ€™s Bing Overseas Studies Program in Santiago, Chile. Â A Guggenheim and NEH Fellow, he has held teaching and research positions at UC-Berkeley, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Harvard, and Oxford. He is the author of AcademicÂ Rebels in Chile: The Role of Philosophy in Higher Education and Politics (1989), AndresÂ Bello: Scholarship and Nation-Building in Nineteenth-Century Latin America (2001), TheÂ Hispanic World and American Intellectual Life, 1820-1880 (2007), and numerous essaysÂ and edited volumes.
